SOCIETY OF PHOTOGRAPHERS

The Society of Photographers comprises a collection contemporary photographers based across the globe. The Society operates on a unique system of anonymity and invitation-only membership to ensure that only the best work is revealed to the general public.

Each year the Society publishes a book and hosts physical exhibitions comprising the best of the work produced by a select set of its members.
The 2007 project is titled "6x6" and will feature six images by six photographers in both book and exhibition form.

The Rooke Gallery will be hosting the book launch and South African leg of the exhibition on 31 January 2008.

Guest Judges for 6x6 include :

ROGER BALLEN
A photographer resident in Johannesburg (South Africa) who's work currently forms part of over 25 museum collections and has exhibited across the globe in over 100 solo and group exhibitions.

SHEYI ANTONY BANKALE
Co-founder of NextLevel Magazine; an independent art, photography and issues publication based in London (United Kingdom).

DANA FACONTI
Editor and publisher of Blind Spot Magazine based in New York (USA) and Executive Director of Photo-Based Art.

MICHAEL FOLEY
Founder and director of the Foley Gallery in New York (USA).

JASON FULFORD
A photographer, designer, curator and co-founder of J&L Books, resident in New York (USA).

CLARE GRAFIK
Curator of The Photographers' Gallery in London (United Kingdom).

MATTHIAS HARDER
Curator of the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin (Germany).

DARIUS HIMES
Adjunct professor of photographic arts at the College of Santa Fe (USA), editor of Photo-eye, a magazine devoted to photography books and a founding member of Radius Books.

KRISTEN LUBBEN
Associate curator of the International Center of Photography in New York (USA).

STEPHEN SHORE
A photographer known for his pioneering use of colour in art photography and the director of the photography department at Bard College in New York's Hudson Valley region (USA).

In 2006 the Society launched its inaugural book "TEN" to worldwide acclaim. The launch was followed by a number of physical exhibitions. Guest judges for this initiative included amongst the likes of Guy Tillim, Jason Fulford, Charlotte Cotton, Jo Ractliffe and Darius Himes.
